Leonardo was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the same year of Queen’s memorable performance in the first edition of Rock in Rio, now one of the biggest music festivals in the world. Maybe it was Freddie Mercury’s exuberance on stage, or Brazil’s rhythm filled culture of samba and bossa-nova, that fueled his passion for music but, today Leonardo turned his music obsession into a collection of all sorts.
“When I am not working or studying, I’m always listening to my CDs and DVDs — I am a collector.”
Even though Leonardo was born in Rio de Janeiro, he later moved to a city called Rio das Ostras, where he works as an English teacher and journalist, and lives with his wife and their French bulldog. He hates to drive and likes to cook but, he’s not good at either of them. However, there is one thing that Leonardo is equally passionate about and really good at, and that is translation. Leonardo’s first job as a professional translator was with Unbabel back in 2014, and since then he has been a leading member of our community of 50,000 translation editors.
For the past 4 years, Leonardo has been working with 3 different languages, Portuguese, his mother tongue, as well as English and Spanish. In 2018, he will be a certified English to Portuguese Translator in Brazil, and he plans to add one more language to his portfolio, French.
He believes that translation has the power to open a lot of doors, and allow information to flow more easily, bringing more and more people together. In his own words, “no matter where you are, what country you live in or language you speak, translation takes you by the hand and lets you be a part of the world”.
He usually works from home, where he has his own office, while listening to carefully curated playlists filled with pop music from the 80s and 90s.
