Preparing for your language test

Before you are able to join the Unbabel Community you will need to take a language test to confirm your proficiency — but we want to make sure you are properly prepared. Please take some time to read through the information on this page, which should help to ensure you are set up for success.

See how the test works

At Unbabel, our goal is to create understanding, no matter the language. Therefore it is extremely important that any translations are of the highest quality, hence why testing is so important to our team. Below you’ll find some pointers on what to look out for in the test.

Before starting the test, you should be sure that you are comfortable and able to concentrate on the test, as you will only have a certain amount of time to complete it.

Make sure to put your best foot forward, as you will only be able to submit the test one time. After this, you will be unable to join our Community for that language pair.

The smallest details matter. Be sure to check the choices for any spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistakes, as well as the correct translation.

We won’t share correct answers to the questions, but will let you know as soon as you finish whether you have passed or failed.

Test anxiety is a real thing, and we want to make sure you are as set up for success as possible. If you have some extra time, and want to prep yourself for the test, we recommend checking out our Language Guidelines in our Community Support Center to get a feel for the language that you are applying for.

What’s next after the test?

After the test, you will take a short tour of the editor dashboard which will prepare your for the final portion of the onboarding. This final test will be a skills test, utilizing the tool you just took a tour of so be sure to pay attention to it.

Ready to get going?

Once you’re ready, jump back to your dashboard and take the test. We’ll notify you immediately after finishing the test if you have passed or not.
