It’s been almost 5 years since we started Unbabel. I find it hard to imagine that it’s been such a long time ever since a surfing trip culminated with this scribbled idea in a notebook that would enable everyone in the world to understand and be understood, in any language.
Today, we’re getting every day closer to achieving our mission of removing language barriers and building understanding across the globe. Translation has always traditionally felt like getting buckets of water from the well, when you should just be able to open the taps.
And that’s exactly what we’re doing at Unbabel. We’re building the world’s translation layer.
For the past 5 years we have accomplished amazing things.
We have built award-winning neural machine translation models and the world’s best quality estimation system.
We have helped companies like Skyscanner, Booking.com, LivingLens or Pinterest go multilingual. We have made it simple to transcribe and translate video in only a few hours.
And we have grown our team, with some of the brightest minds I have ever worked with, to more than 100 employees spread through our offices in Lisbon, London, New York and San Francisco.
But the best is yet to come.
It’s been 5 years since we started Unbabel. Time to show you what the next 5 years will bring.
Unbabel Annual Event — juin 21
This is why we are holding the first Unbabel Annual Event in Lisbon, on juin 21. To share with the world our vision for the years to come.
We’re taking over the breathtakingly beautiful Champalimaud Center for the Unknown, home to state-of-the-art facilities for science, medicine, and technology in Lisbon, for a whole day full of panels, live performances, namesake cocktails and aquatic odysseys to celebrate the future, our partners and customers.
But I don’t want to spoil all the details just yet In the next few weeks, we’ll be giving you more glimpses into what juin 21 will hold.
